Wairarapa-Bush rugby officials are " comfortable" with their decision not to seek entry into the new division one inter-provincial competition next season.
Chief executive officer Phil Taylor said when all matters were taken into account, including team performance and financial considerations,it made more sense for them to be involved in the revamped Heartland series
"We are comfortable with the direction we are taking," Taylor said. "Obviously you aim for the highest level possible but at the same time it's important to not to get too far ahead of yourself. Who knows what will happen a season or two down the track.".
The domestic rugby structure for next season is:-
....A premier division comprising 10 teams with a round robin followed semis and final
.....A division one competition comprising of six teams, four from the current Air N Cup competition and two from the current Heartland championship.
.....A Heartland competition comprising 10 teams with a round robin followed by semis and final.
Whether the WCRFU will reappoint Kelvin Tantrum as coach of their Heartland side or whether they will readvertise the position will probably be known within the next fortnight or so.
In the process of being organised is a debriefing session at which Tantrum will present a detailed report of his assessment of a 2009 season which saw Wairarapa-Bush place sixth in the Meads Cup section and improve their Heartland ranking three places from the previous year.
Taylor said the union's next move on the coaching issue would.be made at the conclusion of the debrief and he declined to voice a personal opinion on what that move would be.
"Board members will all get a chance to have a say and how we progress the situation will be decided by them," he said.
