KEY POINTS:
A young man is fighting for his life and following a fight in the Bay of Plenty last night.
A second young man is also in hospital with serious injuries after the pair were attacked after attending a function in Bethlehem Town Hall, just north of Tauranga.
Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said today the two 18-year-olds were standing in the street outside the hall when they were approached by the three occupants of a car around 10.30pm.
A fight then broke out during which the two young men were knocked to the ground and badly beaten,
Their attackers then fled the scene in a car travelling north.
Both victim were taken to Tauranga Hospital with head injuries.
One of them was later airlifted to Waikato Hospital where his condition was today described as critical.
The second man remained in Tauranga Hospital with injuries including a broken nose.
Mr Brazier that a 15-year-old was arrested this morning in connection with the attack and a search was continuing for two others.
