One person has died and five were injured after the car they were in hit a bridge and crashed into a river in Te Puke this morning.
The car hit a bridge in Jellicoe Street and landed upside down in a stream in the western Bay of Plenty at about 8am today.
Two fire crews from Te Puke cut people out of the vehicle.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, said Paul Radden, shift manager at the fire northern communications centre.
The other five people in the vehicle were taken to hospital.
Police are investigating.
