Queenstown residents need to start having "hard conversations" with each other about drinking and driving, police say.
Five people were caught drink-driving at the weekend.
At least three were locals, including one who recorded a breath-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit.
Sergeant Mark Gill said police were concerned by how many residents were failing to heed the drink-drive message.
People were failing to make arrangements for getting home after going out drinking.
