Unpaid booksellers expect to sell about 40,000 books today and over the weekend with all the proceeds going to a good cause.
Heart Foundation volunteers were yesterday starting to load up the many thousands of books on route to Masterton Town Hall where they were to be laid out on tables, in specific categories, ready for the doors to open at 4pm today.
Co-ordinator Bill Reid said the 18th annual Heart Foundation Book Fair would be a bumper one as many of the books were in excellent, near new condition.
While all the usual categories are expected to again be popular, especially Westerns, war books, cooking, gardening and New Zealand books, the nostalgia section was also likely to attract browsers. It was introduced two years ago as an experiment and had taken organisers by surprise, rapidly proving its worth as a fundraiser.
Today, the books will go on sale from 4pm until 6pm, and from 10am-5pm tomorrow and 10am-3pm on Sunday.
