Bill Simpson, the man who founded the New Zealand branch of the RAF Bomber Command Association and had a major hand in the restoration of the Lancaster at Auckland's Museum of Transport and Technology, has died in Auckland, aged 86.
Mr Simpson was a Mosquito pilot in 109 Squadron, a pathfinder unit, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in December 1945.
He died on Friday.
