Bomb scare a hoax, police say

A suspicious package found in a 1080 poison depot in Taupo today was a hoax, police say.

The Defence Force and police were called in to examine what looked like an improvised explosive device at a property on Broadland Rd just before 8am.

Centennial Drive and Tauhara Rd were closed to traffic and some nearby residents were evacuated before it was found to be a hoax, Taupo Sergeant James McGrogan said.

Police were investigating, he said.
