Bomb disposal officers called to Upper Hutt property

The Defence Force’s bomb squad has been called to an address in Upper Hutt after the discovery of an explosive on Monday morning.

Police have confirmed the explosive — believed to be an old grenade — has been taken away by the squad for disposal.

Officers were called to the Maymorn property to collect some ammunition and since then have called in reinforcements.

They said the Defence Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad responded.

While there was no lockdown in place officers remained at the scene as a precaution.
