Devonport's yachtie residents will do more than merely waving the flag for Team New Zealand during the America's Cup regatta.
They are planning a 10m-high, 30m-long banner to cheer on the defenders - many of whom have strong links to the maritime suburb.
The banner will be displayed each racing day in February and March - possibly on North Head or at Torpedo Bay - so crews going to and from the race course see it.
The banner may even be in the shape of a sail, says its promoter, Sue Johnson, wife of local boat builder Kevin.
She has Devonport Community Board support and hopes residents will make suggestions for the wording.
