The body of Lance Corporal Leon Smith is expected back in the country within the next few days.
The SAS soldier was shot during a raid just outside the Afghan capital Kabul last week.
A Defence Force spokesman has confirmed that once his body arrives home, a closed and private service will be held with SAS first.
Lance Corporal Smith's body will then be returned to his family for a private funeral.
