Searchers have found the body of the helicopter pilot whose aircraft crashed yesterday in steep terrain near the start of the Milford Track.
He was William Bruce Andrews, known as Bruce, aged 49 years. Mr Andrews was from the Te Anau area and a pilot for Milford Helicopters. He was the sole occupant in the helicopter when it crashed yesterday at Glade Burn.
An Invercargill Police search and rescue team landed at the crash scene this morning and recovered Mr Andrews' body.
His Hughes 500 helicopter failed to arrive at its destination at Dumpling Hut on the Milford Track late yesterday afternoon, and searchers - coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Centre - located the wreckage around 9.15pm.
Mr Andrews' body could not be found at the time.
