Body of Australian tramper found in Fiordland

The body of an Australian tramper has been found in ice and snow just off the Kepler Track in Fiordland.

A helicopter was guided in by an emergency locater beacon remotely activated when the 69-year-old man was reported overdue this morning.

His body was found about 300 metres from the Luxmore Hut, on the northern face of Mt Luxmore.

Conditions were close to white out on the mountain, and trampers in the hut have been told by police to return to Te Anau. The matter has been referred to the Invercargill coroner.
