KEY POINTS:
A body has been found washed up on a beach north of the popular West Coast tourist town of Punakaiki.
The discovery was made by someone penguin spotting late this morning, Constable David Cross of Greymouth police said.
The body is believed to be male, but police are unsure how long it has been in the water.
Mr Cross said there had been no reports of a missing person in the area leading up to this morning's discovery.
