The man whose body was found on a remote West Coast beach yesterday has been identified.
He was David Hutton, aged 72 years of Ruby Bay, near Nelson.
A post mortem examination has been completed, and police said preliminary results indicated Mr Hutton died as a result of a fall.
Mr Hutton's body, dressed in a wet suit, was found by two trampers at the high tide mark on a remote beach near the mouth of the Kahurangi River.
Items believed to belong to him were found nearby.
