Police are scouring missing persons records in an effort to identify the body of a man found at Pukerua Bay, north of Wellington, yesterday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, of the Porirua CIB, said a post mortem examination had been conducted on the body today.
The body, of a mature man, was found at the beach.
The man's identity was not yet known, and Mr Oxnam said police would be relying on forensic pathology and missing persons records to establish who it was.
