A body has been found in the Whangaroa Harbour in Northland.
The body was found by a local man in his boat and police arranged for it to be recovered.
The body was that of a 50-year-old local man, police said.
Inspector Karen Wilson, of the police Northern Communications Centre in Auckland, said the death of the Maori man was not suspicious.
The death has been referred to the coroner and relatives had been told, she said.
