Police have recovered a man's body at a Whitemans Valley Road property, near Upper Hutt. Reports of a gunshot sparked an Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) call-out at about 1.30 this afternoon.
"A large number of police staff attended, including AOS members,'' said Upper Hutt Area Commander Inspector Mike Hill.
"The scenewas then cordoned and contained. A short time ago, police recovered the body of a 45-year-old man on the driveway of the address.''
Inspector Hill says the address has now been cleared and no one else was found at the property.
"We'll continue making enquiries into the circumstances which led to this man's death however we are not seeking anyone else in connection to this incident.''
