A body found in bushes on a bank above the Waikato River on Sunday has been formally identified as that of 70-year-old Kawhia man, Trevor Smith.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Mortimore of Hamilton CIB said police expressed condolences to Mr Smith's family.
"We would also like to acknowledge all the people who physically assisted in the search from the Search and Rescue volunteers through to the large contingent of family and friends.''
Mr Mortimore said searchers also wanted to acknowledge all the members of the public who provided information to police in the search for Mr Smith.
"The matter has now been referred to the Coroner.''
