KEY POINTS:
Police have cordoned off a large part of a street in central Hamilton where a man's body has been found.
It is believed the body was discovered in a private courtyard in Victoria Street at around 6.30 last night.
A reporter at the scene, where an investigation is underway, says police have cordoned off the Waikato River area from the casino to the car park.
The man is believed to have been in his teens to his early 20s, but his identity remains unconfirmed at this point. His body is lying under a blue tarpaulin, but police will not say whether there are any obvious signs of violence.
"It's too early to comment on the cause of death at this stage," said Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Nicholls
"We hope the body can be moved from the scene sometime today and a post-mortem carried out tomorrow," he said.
