Two fashion names have come together on the beauty colour of the season, reports Janetta Mackay.
L'Wren Scott and Bobbi Brown may not exactly see eye to eye, but the 1.93m-tall former model and stylist-turned-designer and the diminutive makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur are an on-trend team.
Their first off-the-runway collaboration neatly packages some of the strongest shades of the season. Seen first on the models at Scott's London Fashion Week spring show, the colours have now been collated into a palette.
It features an impressionistic sketch of the long-legged partner of rock legend Mick Jagger. The roses she grows at the chateau where they sometimes live in France were the inspiration for the collection. It also includes lip shades that pick up on the tonal hues of her favourite bloom, called the Amnesia rose.
Scott favours the darker end of the spectrum, liking to wear a wine-coloured lip. Brown says this can be elegant by day and edgy by night.
"If you like the idea of a bold lip, but aren't ready to make the full commitment, you can blot on any of the darker shades to create a sheer, stained effect."

How did you and L'Wren decide to collaborate?
Bobbi Brown: I've always been a big fan of L'Wren's - I'm obsessed with her sparkly sweaters. I finally had the chance to meet her in London at a party for my brand's 20th anniversary and we instantly clicked.
We spent the entire night talking about makeup and self-esteem. The next thing I knew, I was doing the makeup for L'Wren's London Fashion Week Show, which ended up organically morphing into working together on a collection.
What was the inspiration for the Bobbi x L'Wren Scott collection? A bouquet of Amnesia roses that L'Wren surprised me with after our first London Fashion Week together. L'Wren loves Amnesia roses and she grows them in her garden. I was instantly drawn to their moody colour - a cool mix of heathery lilacs. I love that you can create a multitude of looks with the palette - from a casual everyday makeup to a dramatic evening look.
How did you use the collection to create the runway look?
L'Wren's spring 2014 collection was inspired by traditional geishas. For a modern take on the polished and dramatic beauty look of geishas, I applied Mulberry eye shadow on the lower lid, and layered a soft wash of Pink Lilac Sparkle eye shadow on top to brighten and open up the eyes.
On lips, I applied Wine lip colour straight from the tube, then dabbed and blended the colour with my fingers to create a pretty stained-lip look.

How do you correctly apply the purples for a wearable look?
When it comes to purple eye shadow, it's about moderation and balance. Wear it as an accent and keep the rest of your makeup neutral. Balance the colour on the eyes with a soft pink colour on the cheeks, and a nude beige or soft pink colour on the lips. For a pretty and sultry look, apply Amnesia Rose eye shadow on the lid from the lashline to crease and follow with Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash eye shadow.
To keep the look cool and modern, make sure to blend the eye shadow so that the colour is soft around the edges. Or, apply a more neutral shade on the lid, like Iron eye shadow, then use the Mulberry as a liner, applied with a brush. It adds a fun pop of colour to your look.
How would you use the palette to create a day to night look? For a go-to everyday look, you can apply the Rose on the lid blended into the crease. For subtle sparkle, layer Silver Lilac Sparkle eye shadow or the Pink Lilac on top. For a dramatic evening look, you can mix the two. For added definition, add both black liner and mascara, or the Iron shadow for softer definition along the lower lashline.
