Christchurch mayor Bob Parker wants answers from seismologists, following the recent spate of aftershocks.
Two of yesterday's 40-odd earthquakes came in at more than five on the Richter Scale, and before Christmas there were aftershocks of magnitude 5.8 and six.
Parker said he has been getting a lot of questions from people who are hungry for up-to-date information.
He says some people don't believe they're being told the whole truth, and others are getting worried about tsunamis.
Parker said he didn't want the city being run by rumour, so it's time to hear again from the scientists.
