The call is out for boaties to join Sunday's floating procession on the Waitemata Harbour in honour of the sailing hero Sir Peter Blake.
Yachting New Zealand president Geoff Thorpe said he would like to see thousands taking part, as well as large numbers of spectators.
"It's poignant that we are going to express our appreciation and mark our respect for his life work in the place that it impacted most - on the harbour," he said.
Mr Thorpe said the procession was designed to complement the memorial service being held in the Auckland Domain.
He had no doubt that Sir Peter's legacy in the yachting world, such as Team New Zealand, would live on.
The procession will begin at 5 pm under the harbour bridge.
It will head east to North Head and then return to pass Princes Wharf and the Viaduct Harbour.
It will finish under the harbour bridge.
Boats in the procession should listen to VHF channel 77 for instructions.
