KEY POINTS:
BMW has announced plans to radically reduce its vehicles' CO2 emissions.
The improvements will be made by widespread use of more efficient engines, regenerative brakes and stop-start functions on most of BMW's model ranges.
The German firm's new 'Green Dynamics' programme sets out to improve its cars ecological credentials whilst maintaining their agility.
A range of optimised four cylinder petrol and diesel engines will be integral to the new measures.
The result will be a 2007 BMW line up which benefits from no fewer than 22 models which achieve less than 140g/km carbon dioxide emissions.
One of the most dramatic reductions will be seen on the 320d Touring, whose fuel consumption is down by 17 percent over last years model. Smaller cars aren't the only ones to benefit - the uprated 520d will pump out an incredibly low 136g/km CO2.
