A sea lion that has made Bluff's main street its home is about to be evicted.
The sea lion took a shine to Marine Parade more than a month ago and has since continued to position itself on the street causing severe disruption to traffic, The Southland Times reported.
M oves to prevent the animal from returning, such as putting plastic netting over its entrance to the road, had all failed, and residents were worried about the disruption to traffic. Bluff Fisherman's Shore Station operator Meri Leask said there were signs at either end of the street warning drivers to slow down and beware after near-misses with cars.
She said she had lost count of the number of times she had chased the animal off the street.
"The darned thing keeps coming back."
However, Mrs Leask said she understood the Department of Conservation was making plans to remove the animal and a meeting was planned to work out how best to do that.
