KEY POINTS:
Venture Southland has decided not to hold an oyster festival in Invercargill.
The organisation, which had run the annual Bluff oyster festival and food festival, had planned to move the event to Invercargill next year in an attempt to increase visitor numbers.
But after the Bluff community rallied and vowed to hold its own festival.
Venture Southland chief executive Jeff Troon said today following the decision of the Bluff community at a public meeting last night to proceed with their own festival, Venture Southland decided not to go ahead with a festival in Invercargill.
"Venture Southland's approach is to work with communities and we wish the Bluff community success with its endeavours," he said.
