A resident at Broadview Retirement Village in Wanganui says it will only be a matter of time before someone is killed trying to drive from the village into Mosston Rd.
Helen Maclean moved to the village a few months ago.
She said the entrance to the villas and hospital wing is off Mosston Rd and it carried considerable traffic, including residents, visitors, staff and ambulances. But she said the entrance is concealed and only metres from a blind corner, which meant traffic coming from the Castlecliff end of Mosston Rd was on the gateway very quickly. And she said cars from Springvale come equally fast.
The road does carry a 70km/h speed restriction but Mrs Maclean said the blind corner gave little time to react.
"Drivers coming out of the gate are well aware of the danger and take great care. But after stopping at the gate, they barely have time to turn into Mosston Rd before the next speeding car is upon them."
