The death of a man outside a Blenheim bar early on Sunday morning is being treated as suspicious.
Matthew Patrick Heagney, 24, of Blenheim, died after hitting his head on the footpath outside Shapeshifters bar in Kinross St about 2.40am.
Paramedics took him to Blenheim's Wairau Hospital where he died shortly before 7am.
Senior Sergeant Ciaran Sloan said today police had completed a scene examination and were awaiting post mortem results.
They were interviewing a number of witnesses and said response from people in the area had been very helpful.
There has been wide speculation in the community about what had happened including one report that Mr Heagney died after being evicted from the bar.
But Constable Michelle Stagg said it was too early to say how Mr Heagney's death occurred.
Anyone with information or who was at the bar on Saturday night or Sunday morning should contact Blenheim Police.
