A Christchurch woman was assaulted in her home by a man in a bloodied attack - the blood caused by an injury to the man, say police.
The man broke into the address in Rotheram Street in the suburb of Riccarton about 5.15am on Saturday and assaulted the woman, police said in a statement this afternoon.
He was last seen about 5.30am running from the area on the Dilworth Street corner, opposite the Westfield Mall.
He was described as an olive skinned, of average height, with dark coloured short hair, solid build with muscular arms.
"At the time of the attack it appears this male has had an injury of some sort and has left an amount of blood at the scene."
