Blazes hit three North Island schools

Firefighters in the North Island have been called to blazes at a primary school, a high school, and a beauty school overnight.

Northern Communications spokesperson Jaron Phillips said crews were called to Churchill Park School in Glendowie, east Auckland, just before 3am.

A single storey building at the school was "well involved in fire on arrival" and is significantly damaged, Mr Phillips said.

Four crews remain at the scene.

At 9.40pm, two appliances from the Te Puke Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a fire at Te Puke High School.

Mr Phillips said the blaze was believed to have been started in a wooden storage box in the school's woodwork building.

Firefighters were also called to the Elite International School of Beauty and Spa Therapies in Rosedale on the North Shore about 5.30am.

Four appliances are at the scene, and an extractor fan is being brought into ventilate the building, Mr Phillips said.

Fire investigators will be investigating each of the fires.
