Guests at a Christchurch hotel were evacuated from their rooms down a fire truck's ladder early this morning when a small fire broke out.
Firefighters were called to the New City Hotel on Colombo St about 2.30am when a fire alarm went off.
It turned out there was a small fire and the hotel had to be evacuated, which took some time while firefighters checked every room, a fire spokesman said.
"They did assist some people with a ladder to get out of their rooms."
Nobody was injured in the blaze and a fire investigator is at the scene this morning.
