Firefighters were called to Mangahoa Rd in Pahiatua on Friday after a fire broke out in a paddock.
Fire communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said the fire, which started at about 1.30pm, had extended to a 100m area of vegetation but was under control by 4pm.
A tanker was called out to assist Pahiatua firefighters and foam was used to stop the fire.
"The rural fire officer is still there keeping an eye on things," Mr Wanoa said.
"The fire is under control, [we've] got a digger there to build a fire break."
