KEY POINTS:
Firefighters have doused a wooded area blaze that was disrupting traffic in Dunedin this morning.
Rural Fire Service firefighters were called to the fire in a large stand of macrocarpa trees in Portobello Rd just before 5am, southern fire communications shift supervisor Jan Wills said.
Fanned by strong winds, the blaze caused major traffic delays around Dunedin, with police directing motorists away from the scene.
Ms Wills said firefighters took about three hours to douse the blaze and all units had left by 8.48am.
It was not known how the fire started, but there was no indication of anything suspicious, she said.
A power company had been called in to cut down a damaged tree.
