Firefighters are battling a blaze in a remote area of Wairarapa.
Fire Service Central Communications shift manager Chris Dalton said the service was alerted to the 3ha blaze, between Tora and Whiterock, about 10.45am.
It was being battled by two helicopters, three fire appliances and four rural fire trucks.
The area was "fairly rugged" and information was scarce as communication was via satellite phone only, Mr Dalton said.
