A trip to Brazil inspired fashion designer Turet Knuefermann's sexy collection for her label IPG (International Playgirl). The collection was shown this afternoon on the final day of New Zealand Fashion Week.
Auckland-based Knuefermann, whose show last year created a stir when she sent model Nicky Watson onto the catwalk in a barely-there diamante bikini, talks fashion, accessories, what makes a good wardrobe and the things she simply cannot live without.
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Tom Ford and John Galliano. Tom for his ability to churn out the most beautiful, feminine, timeless but classic, yet still edgy collections year after year. You can look back at any designs and still be wowed by their clean, beautiful lines that seem nevertheless to remain up to date and incredibly chic. He is definitely my idol.
John Galliano guarantees the most beautiful, theatrical, stunning pieces. For me, he is truly "fashion" for the catwalk as opposed to Tom Ford, who has the ability to create what is not only commercially viable to a broader market but is also exclusive and wearable.
What do you wear to work?
Jeans and racerback singlets. I picked up a few pairs of jeans in Brazil which I just love. Their cut is incredible. Also, the leather jackets I bought there - fitted to the figure, narrow-cut shoulders and perfect detailing.
Who is your inspiration?
Tom Ford. Always was, always will be.
What is your favourite accessory of the moment?
Gold Gucci chain watch, Gucci beltbags (they come in all colours now) and scarves - preferably long fine silk, or loose woven ... anything long.
What are the staple pieces for a good wardrobe?
A jean which suits your figure and style, a well-cut leather jacket (anything other than black), scarves, racerback singlets, a fitted suit, knee-high boots, great lingerie.
What is your failsafe look on days when you simply have nothing to wear?
Jeans, knee-high boots and a sexy top.
What do you wear when you are relaxing at home?
My neighbours have asked me to get blinds.
What was your biggest fashion indulgence?
Gucci everything ... I just can't resist.
What is the biggest fashion mistake you have made?
Using the diamante outfit [modelled by Nicky Watson] at last year's Fashion Week - it wasn't the right thing for me to do to represent the label.
What is the last item of clothing you bought?
Chocolate-brown leather pants in Brazil.
Favourite hotels?
Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich (huge and luxurious), Ice Hotel in Sweden (would love to go) and Hotel Marignon (super-cheap and stark wee hotel in the middle of Paris, but great memories).
What is your beauty routine?
Don't really have one - always rushing, but love long, hot showers and baths.
What can't you live without?
Red wine, coffee, Movenpick chocolate icecream and my cat.
