Police are warning drivers to beware of black ice in the central North Island.
Inspector Christopher Tate said that in the past few hours there had been at least seven non-injury crashes in the Rotorua, South Waikato and Taupo districts where drivers had lost control after hitting patches of black ice.
"Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions, and be especially cautious when travelling in shaded areas," he said.
