KEY POINTS:
Mix together a bit of Porsche and Jaguar and add the wheels of the Toyota Avensis and what do you get? Every British car owner's dream, according to a survey carried out by an online buying guide.
The site invited British motorists to choose which elements of existing vehicles they liked, from body shapes and engine power to safety features and accessories, and put them all together.
The result is a four-door coupe which features the front end of a Porsche Boxster and the roofline of the Jaguar XK, stretched to accommodate the five seats favoured by 68 per cent of respondents.
Almost 50 per cent rejected petrol power in favour of diesel or hybrid engines. And, despite the car's muscular look, the same number went for a medium-powered engine rather than anything gas-guzzling or sporty.
As far as mod cons go, air-conditioning, electric windows and power steering got the thumbs up from 20 per cent of respondents, while more luxurious items such as rain-sensitive windscreen wipers and heated seats got short shrift.
Seat belts and anti-lock brakes were the must-have items for safety, with 36 per cent choosing this pairing over more active safety options such as seat belt pre-tensioners.
And the wheels? Most chose those of the mainstream Avensis over swept-up designs from Lamborghini and Maserati.
