An Anglican cleric who controversially told Jews last month the holocaust "should have taught them a lesson" has been suspended his title as bishop.
John Gray was head of the Maori Anglican diocese in the South Island until he was demoted for the comments - made to Jewish visitors to Christchurch - which also included an attack on Muslim speakers, Fairfax reported.
He had managed to retain his title of bishop despite the demotion, but does not have the role of bishop of that diocese during the investigation.
"The archbishops of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia are aware of complaints made recently about Bishop John Gray," the Anglican Church said in a statement.
