There were scenes of frustration and anxiety in Christchurch's Cathedral Square this afternoon as Bishop Victoria Mathews called an emergency media standup to refute Gerry Brownlee's claims this week the Government offered the church a $25 million deal to restore the building.
Members of the public rushed to join the media scrum, desperate for their own answers over the city's crumbling centrepiece.
The Bishop says Minister Brownlee's claims of a $25 million offer of Government help are incorrect.
The church says a decision over the Cathedral's fate will be out in the next six months.
