KEY POINTS:
More than 30 birds have been killed and 50 are sick after eating poison-laced grain at Auckland's Western Springs.
A 4kg box of grain, laced with what appears to be alpha-chloralose poison, was found in Western Springs, Auckland Regional Council (ARC) said.
It appeared the contents were scattered from the lake in Western Springs to Great North Road.
The poisoning is being investigated by police and ARC.
Sick birds were being treated by bird rescuer Lynn McDonald from Henderson.
ARC said the poisoning was survivable depending on the dose.
The poison was not harmful to humans, other large mammals or fish.
