Bird flu action call

A cross-party committee of MPs has called on health authorities to step up their bird flu pandemic planning.

Parliament's health select committee yesterday released a report calling for prompt action.

It said there were gross deficiencies in disease surveillance, district health board planning, plans for home-based care, plans to protect critical workers and stockpiles of essential personal medicines.
