KEY POINTS:
Renault will launch an E85 biopowered Megane before the end of 2007, the company's first alternative fuel offering to the British market.
It'll use the existing 1.6 16V 105bhp engine with a number of modifications to the fuel tank, injection system and combustion chambers allowing it to run on E85 biofuel.
The E85 fuel is made up of 85% sustainable crops like wheat and 15% petrol, but for now its availability in Britain is limited compared with conventional petrol or diesel.
Although this is Renault's first biopowered car in the UK, the company's been building E100 fuelled Clios and Meganes in Brazil (where there's a plentiful supply of sugarcane) since 2004.
As well as the environmental benefits, running a biofuelled car offers financial incentives to fleet customers who'll get 2 per cent off their company car tax.
