A bill to scrap the law on microchipping dogs was defeated on its first reading in Parliament last night.
The Green Party's Dog Control (Cancellation of Microchipping Requirements) Amendment Bill was voted down 61-60 with the Government, New Zealand First and United Future opposing it.
Jeanette Fitzsimons brought the member's bill to Parliament, arguing that the law would not stop dogs attacking children.
