Bill to cut number of MPs passes hurdle

Parliament last night voted 61-60 to send a bill cutting the number of MPs from 120 to 100 to a select committee for public submissions.

But New Zealand First MP Barbara Stewart's member's bill went through its first reading with such a narrow majority it may not get any further.
