Bill English and Jacinda Ardern went face-to-face this evening at the first leaders' debate as New Zealanders took to Twitter to express their thoughts.
The debate on TVNZ 1 came immediately after Labour overtook National in the polls for the first time since 2006, when Helen Clark was in charge, but both leaders had a lot to prove.
Twitter users were sharply divided on who won the debate and there was little consensus on Mike Hosking's moderation.
