Auckland Regional Council is to recruit four "rock fishing safety advisers" who speak English and Mandarin to try to prevent drownings among Asian people fishing at surf beaches west of Auckland.
In a pilot project, the advisers will be trained and will work weekends and holidays for the rest of the summer.
