Bike hurts toddler

A 3-year-old girl was taken to hospital after playing on a stationary motorcycle - before it ran over her.

Emergency services were called to Awakeri, near Whakatane, about 4.30pm yesterday and police said the girl had fallen from a stationary motorcycle.

"It's believed that the child grabbed the accelerator and was subsequently run over by the bike."

The toddler suffered a fractured femur but police said her injuries were not life-threatening.
