Big wheels pull in for successful fundraiser

The inaugural RV Lifestyle Vans & Vines event held in Martinborough last weekend was so successful it's set to become an annual event.

The event was organised as a fundraiser for volunteer firefighter Peter Fisher and Pirinoa farm worker Brian Renwick, who are both recovering from serious injuries received in unrelated incidents last year.

About 70 motor-homes were stationed at the Martinborough Rugby Club grounds, where patrons were fed and entertained, according to event spokesman Bruce Mountain.

Although the amount raised had not been finalised, it was in the region of $20,000 after donated items were auctioned.

Mr Mountain said it was a great weekend with perfect weather.

"The weather was perfect. It was just a lovely weekend."

Mr Fisher attended some of the event, while Mr Renwick's family helped with organisation.

"He was just absolutely blown away by everyone's generosity," said Mr Mountain.

"He just couldn't believe it."

Feedback from those who attended had been positive, and many were pleased the Martinborough Fair was also on.

"They absolutely all loved the event," said Mr Mountain.

"All the motor-homers who came thought it was the best event they've been to."

He planned to hold the event regularly.

"The event will certainly get bigger every year."
