Masterton's Little Avondale Stud played a big part in Lisa Allpress becoming the first female jockey to ride 1000 winners in New Zealand.
Allpress, 37, achieved that when she guided Kekova to success in the $50,000 Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Tauherenikau on Waitangi Day.
Kekova was bred by Sam and Catriona Williams of Little Avondale Stud and they leased her to the Bleap Syndicate, a large group of owners, many of whom are new to racing.
Now the winner of six of her 24 starts and $108,500 in prizemoney, Kekova is a half-sister to Rapid Kay (by Towkay), a group-one placed mare who died in November last year.
