The Waikato armed offenders squad, a team of police negotiators and the Auckland-based Eagle helicopter swooped on a property near the Hauraki settlement of Puriri yesterday after reports of shots being fired.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Martyn Hughes said officers spoke to a 69-year-old man after the incident.
Police supported the safe, lawful use of firearms, he said, but asked all shooters to consider the environment they operated in and who might be affected by their shooting.
