Early indications are for a big field in the City Fitness Wairarapa women's triathlon to be held in Masterton on Sunday, November 23.
Fifty individual and eight team entries had been received by yesterday morning and Dayle Clarkson, of Sport Wairarapa, is "very hopeful" of at least 200 females competing in the event.
"There seems to be a lot of interest out there, the signs are encouraging for a big field," Clarkson said.
All of the action in the triathlon will take part in and around Queen Elizabeth Park. It will start with a 2.3km run which will begin in the park before exiting at the Caf? Cecile entranceway on to Park Avenue, continuing on to Church street before turning left on to Colombo Road. From there the competitors will make their way back to the park on the lime track alongside the Masterton Red Star rugby grounds.
The second leg is a 13km cycle ride which goes from the transition area at the park and takes in Dixon street, Park Avenue, Archer Street, Church Street, Colombo Road and Cockburn Street some of them more than once and the third and final leg is a 175m swim at the Genesis Recreation Centre pool.
All competitors must be 12 years or older on the day of the race and entrants in the team's section can consist of either two or three people.
Entries will be accepted right up until the morning of the event which has an official start time of 9am. Registration will take place on the "green space" next to the Kid's Own Playground from 7.30am to 8.30am.
